Sled Kites: Frameless, Tough and Easy to Pack

Sled kites are soft kites that fill with air to hold their shape. Most have no frame at all, so there's nothing to assemble or break, and they fold small enough for a pocket or backpack. Our range runs from tiny keychain kites and Back Pack Sleds to Premier Kites' Power Sled line, up to the Mega Power Sled 81 for experienced flyers.

How to Choose a Sled Kite

  • Size and pull: Keychain, Mini and Back Pack sleds are light and gentle, great for kids and travel. Power Sleds are named by number: the bigger the number, the bigger the kite and the harder it pulls.
  • Line: Small sleds often come with line. Big Power Sleds need heavy line (the Mega Power Sled 81 calls for 1000 lb. test), so check the listing and add line from our kite accessories.
  • Wind: Sleds like a steady breeze. In very light or gusty wind they can fold up; let out a little line and they usually reinflate.
  • Material: Nearly all are ripstop polyester, which shrugs off rough landings on sand and grass.

Sled Kite FAQ

Do sled kites need assembly?

Almost never. Unroll the kite, attach the line and let the wind open it. That's why sleds are a favorite for beaches, camping and kids.

Why does my sled kite collapse?

A sled needs steady air pressure to stay open. Turbulent wind near trees or buildings can fold it. Move to open ground with nothing upwind, and it will fly much more steadily.

Are Power Sleds good for beginners?

The smaller Power Sleds are. The large ones pull hard and are best for experienced adult flyers using strong line and gloves.
