Stunt Kites: Steer Every Loop and Dive

Stunt kites, also called sport kites, fly on two lines, one in each hand, so you steer the kite through loops, dives and figure eights instead of just letting it float. We carry dual-line kites from Prism, Premier Kites and In the Breeze, from 48 in. starter kites and sport foils to precision trick kites like the Prism Hypnotist, Synapse and Quantum.

How to Choose a Stunt Kite

  • Skill level: First-time flyers do best with a stable, forgiving kite such as a 48 in. sport kite or a sport foil. Experienced flyers chasing trick performance should look at the Prism range, the Rocket HP and the Widow Pro Classic.
  • Wind range: Listings give a wind range in mph. Light-wind kites fly in barely a breeze; standard kites like moderate wind. Match the kite to the wind where you fly most.
  • Framed or foil: Framed sport kites are the most precise. Sport foils like the Speedfoil and Sport Air Foil have no frame to break and pull harder.
  • Lines included? Many come with lines and handles or wrist straps. Some advanced Prism kites ship without a line set, and the listing says so.

Stunt Kite FAQ

Are stunt kites hard to learn?

Not with the right kite and wind. Start in a gentle, steady breeze with plenty of open space, keep both lines the same length, and remember: pull your left hand to turn left and your right hand to turn right.

What's the difference between a stunt kite and a sport kite?

Nothing; the two names mean the same thing. Both describe steerable kites flown with two (or four) lines.

How long should stunt kite lines be?

Longer lines slow the kite down and give a beginner more time to react; shorter lines make it quicker. Kits come with lines matched to the kite, and replacement Dyneema and Spectra line sets are in kite accessories.
